My husband and I are getting ready to start the process of purchasing our home. I%26#039;m scared that my credit will hurt us. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks!
Help with credit score!?
Do you know what your credit score is now? You are entitled to obtain 1 free credit report per yr from the 3 major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. You need to see what is on there first to verify there isn%26#039;t an error on the report. It is good to have accounts such as credit cards with at least a 12 mth history to review. On credit cards try not to charge more than 60-70% of your credit line because this effects your score. Also, for all accounts you have make sure your payments are made on time. If you see an account that is not yours or has an error on it dispute it with all 3 credit bureaus. You need to file a dispute in writing and the credit bureau gets with the creditor and they have 30 days to verify the validity of the reporting if they fail to do so the debt is removed. If you have an old collection on your credit contact the creditor and see if they will make a deal with you to remove the collection from your report in return for the payoff. Get this in writing from them beforehand because if they fail to do this you can send their letter (on company letterhead) to the credit bureau for removal. As far as the other post on here that stated you might just want to apply in your husband%26#039;s name does not make sense because you have not indicated your score or income. Lenders do not discriminate on gender. Without more info, your score could be higher and we do not know what your income is and what your husbands income is. So, ignore that advise. Good luck to you.
Help with credit score!?
Quick fixes are difficult with credit. Credit can be repaired, but it takes time, planning, patience, and relentlessness.
If you have time (1-2 years) open a few credit cards, make payments timely (never, ever, ever be late), pay down your debt, offer to pay debts in return for removing derogs from your credit (Pay for removal), send good will letters to current creditors.
If you%26#039;re buying a house in the immediate future, Is it possible to put the house under his credit only? Lenders tend to take the average (which will be lower than his), or the worst score for the rate to apply.
