Does closing a checking account (in good standing) affect my credit score or rating?

I have a standard checking account at National City (a major banking chain). The account is in good standing and I would be clsoing it voluntarily. I know closing credit cards affects credit, but does closing a bank account?

I am actually taking a class on credit and personal finances right now and closing a checking or savings account does not affect your credit score. However, it should be done if it is not being used because it isn%26#039;t helping you.
