Will combining credit cards effect my credit score?

I have a Citi Visa card since 2002 and a new Citi Mastercard with rebates which I%26#039;ve received a month ago. I like the rebate features on the Mastercard and I would like to combine both cards into the Mastercard. Will I lose my credit history on the Visa if I move the credit limit to the Mastercard and close Visa?

Closing an account will not help your credit score and may hurt it. Unless it is a fee based card, just destroy the card.

Moving money from one card to another will not affect your credit rating. You will never lose a credit history.

You will not lose the credit history. But why close the Visa if it is otherwise OK? Just don%26#039;t use it anymore.
